iDesign Solutions is a New Zealand-based CAD and mechanical design service led by an experienced design engineer with a strong background in manufacturing and product development.
Directed by Dylan Filbee (NZCE Mech, BE Mechanical Hons), the business is built on more than 25 years of hands-on industry experience — combining practical workshop knowledge with formal engineering expertise.
Experience That Shapes Better Design
Dylan’s path into design didn’t start behind a computer — it started on the tools. Starting out with an NZCE (Mechanical) and working as a welder/fabricator in the UK, he developed a strong understanding of how things are actually made. After returning to New Zealand, he worked mechanical CAD design roles in the tech/manufacturing sector in Christchurch before completing a Mechanical Engineering degree at the University of Canterbury.
Dylan then worked as a design engineer for companies in the both the manufacturing and design sector before joining iDesign Solutions as a director in 2005. Following the Christchurch earthquakes in 2011, iDesign Solutions transitioned into a new phase, with Dylan becoming the sole director and continuing to grow the business independently.
A move to Brightwater near Nelson in 2014 marked the next chapter, and today the business supports clients across New Zealand as well as internationally on a wide range of projects.
The combination of practical workshop experience and engineering training continues to shape the way projects are approached today — with a strong focus on practicality, efficiency, and real-world performance.

IDesign Solutions is based in Brightwater in the Nelson / Tasman region of New Zealand. As well as working with local clients in the Top of the South, we also work with clients throughout New Zealand and internationally. For remote work, we have a number of excellent collaboration tools; Onshape in particular is very good for on the go review of CAD designs.
