Electronics Integration & Housing
Kitea Wand
iDesign was involved in the design for a handheld wand that is the sensor for a system that can measure the cranial pressure of hydrocephalic patients. The work included laying out and integrating the electronics into a custom injection moulded housing. Fully detailed CAD models were 3D printed to check fitment and feel of the product.
Design for Stainless Fabrication
Nelspray
For a number of years iDesign has worked with Nelspray, a NZ company that designs, fabricates and installs spray components for MDF and strandboard production lines all over the world. This involves extensive sheetmetal modelling as well as machined components. In addition to the many production line assemblies, iDesign has also created a number of test jigs and fixtures for calibration and research testing.
Louvre & Shutter Systems
Johnson & Couzins
iDesign has worked with Johnson and Couzins for well over a decade, working with the team to create many unique louvre and window shutter systems. A recent redesign of the original Concertina Louvre system has delivered significant improvements in ease of assembly and setup.
Automated Test Rigs & Production Jigs

We have designed many automated test rigs and production jigs. These are used for programming, calibration and function tests of both the designed products and completely standalone test units.
Custom-Built From Scratch
The Caravan
A completely unique caravan, designed and built from scratch. The covering is insulated PVC and the interior is completely modular, it can be rejigged to suit your needs incredibly easily.

The Truck
Dynafari
This is a long term project, probably the most ambitious I have undertaken. However it is now on the road, fully legal and compliant, and is used as a daily vehicle for work and recreation. It is proving incredibly useful and practical.
The underpinnings are a 1992 Y60 Nissan Safari fitted with the cab from a Toyota Dyna.
Built from scratch
CNC Router
I built a CNC router from scratch in order to support many other ideas and projects I have. It is running LinuxCNC and has worked out pretty well, stretching my electrical hardware and software skills.
DIY Musical Instrument Kit
The Bass
This is a flat pack acoustic bass guitar that the owner builds themselves, the one shown is one of the many prototypes I have created. The project is still in the works as I refine the design and buildability.
Built from scratch
The Bicycles
When I started cycling in earnest I had a hard time finding a frame that suited me. The only logical solution was to build a frame jig and get to making bicycles from scratch, the results are pretty great.
